Breathing Air Compressors in Firefighting

Firefighters face significant risks when fighting infernos, making their safety a top priority. Breathing air compressors protect firefighters from the risks of smoke and toxic fumes by providing a continuous supply of clean air. This enables firefighters to operate in hazardous environments while minimizing the risk to their health and well-being.

During a fire, lot of heat is generated as smoke engulfs the surrounding area, releasing hazardous gases. These toxic gases can cause severe respiratory damage to the firefighters and can lead to health complications and even death. The Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) plays an important role in safeguarding firefighters by providing a reliable source of clean breathing air. These breathing air systems consists of Breathing Air compressors, Air Storage cylinders containing compressed air at the desired CGA Grade. This enables firefighters to enter smoke-filled spaces with confidence, allowing them to perform rescue operations and extinguish fire efficiently.

The Air Storage cylinders are filled or refilled using Breathing Air compressors such as the MAKO Modular Breathing Air Center (MBAC). These cylinders store compressed air at a pressure of 200 – 300 barg. They contain enough breathing air to sustain firefighters for extended periods, ensuring a continuous supply during critical firefighting operations. SCBA Cylinders available in five sizes: 2L, 3L, 6.8L, 9L and 10L.

Other equipment included as part of the Breathing air system includes facemasks and headgear that form an airtight seal against the face that prevents the entry of smoke and toxic gases. The use of Breathing Air systems is of the utmost importance in protecting the lives of firefighters as they fight in extremely dangerous infernos.

By providing a constant source of clean air, Breathing Air systems mitigate the risk of dangerous and toxic fumes from being inhaled while fighting a fire, thus preventing respiratory injuries and protecting our first responders. They ensure that firefighters are able to perform their duties without being slowed down by airborne hazards created during a fire.

Our MAKO Modular Breathing Air Center (MBAC) has been supplying high quality compressors for over 70 years, providing safe breathing air to various industries such as professional fire services, hydrogen sulphide safety services, and diving centers. Additionally, we offer an extensive variety of Breathing Air high-pressure compressors and fill station solutions ranging from 5.8 to 33.2 cfm (9.9 to 56.4m3/hr).

Additional applications where our Breathing Air compressors are used include ships, medical engineering (hyperbaric oxygen therapy), non-lethal shooting sports (airsoft, paintball), and motor sports.
